District IV Honor Band Auditions (7th & 8th Gr.)

​The District IV Honor Bands are an opportunity for selected students to spend three days in January performing with outstanding musicians from throughout the Greater Baton Rouge area.  Earning membership in these prestigious groups is a great addition to any young musician’s resume.  CMS has been very proud of the number of students who are selected from our school each year and we take the audition process very seriously.  The Mustangs who have been selected have had an unforgettable experience performing new and challenging music, meeting other musicians, and learning from an accomplished band director.  This year the conductor of the top honor band is a composer, Mr. Eric Morales!

AUDITION INFORMATION

• Saturday, December 8, 2018 at University High on LSU’s campus at a time that will be individually assigned to the student and posted at www.districtiv.org.  Students can request early/late times if they have events that day.
• Fee - $10 pre-registration fee for 7th Graders.  Due by Nov 1 payable to CMS Band (we then write one check for all students to District IV).  *8th Graders are required to audition so their pre-registration fee is covered by the band.
• Late Registration Fee – Students may choose to “late register” if they miss the deadline to sign-up.  To do this, arrive between 8:00 – 10:00 AM on audition day and pay the $15 late registration fee directly to District IV. 
• Music Requirements -
  • Short etude (Set II) found in the band book
  • F, C, Bb, Eb, Ab, and Chromatic Scales found in the band book
  • Short sight-reading piece which students can practice for at sightreadingfactory.com
• Tutoring - Optional after-school tutoring will be available for students auditioning.  Check the band calendar for dates and times, http://www.cmsmustangband.com/calendar.html

Sharing a love for music!

• All events are held during “Honor Band Weekend” on the campus of Southeastern University in Hammond.  Students spend the weekend overnight there.  The Booster Club provides chaperones and arranges hotel and transportation accommodations.  Selected students will be required to pay a portion of the hotel fee, approx. $50, TBD.
• Students must be present for 100% of all rehearsals and the concert in order to participate.​
  • Thursday, Jan 17 – Rehearsal – 6:30 PM - 9:00 PM at SELU
  • Friday, Jan 18 (no school that day) – Rehearsals – 9:00 AM - 12:00 PM, 2:00 PM - 4:00 PM, 6:00 PM - 8:00 PM at SELU
  • Saturday, Jan 19 – Rehearsal – 8:30 AM at Columbia Theatre in Downtown Hammond
  • Saturday, Jan 19 – CONCERT – 10:00 AM at COLUMBIA THEATRE
