Congratulations and get ready for a great weekend!  Honor Band Weekend takes place in Hammond, LA at Southeastern University. The Band Boosters organize hotel rooms, chaperones, and bus transportation.  For those attending, please read the entire article for all of the details.  Students must be present for 100% of all rehearsals and the concert in order to participate.

Thursday, January 16 - Saturday, January 18 at Southeastern University in Hammond

CLICK "READ MORE" FOR FULL TRIP DETAILS...
HOTEL ACCOMMODATIONS
We will be staying at the Comfort Inn in Hammond (110 Westin Oaks Dr.).  Students should expect to be either three or four to a room.  I have also reserved two rooms for chaperones and would like four chaperones if possible.  Please let me know if you are available to chaperone!!

TRANSPORTATION
We will be taking a school bus.  However, I am asking that our chaperones follow in their vehicles to allow for additional cargo space.  If chaperones would like to carpool, that would also be fine.  Ideally, we would like for the students to put their overnight bags and instruments in the follow cars.  Please let me know chaperones if you this works for you!

FINANCIAL RESPONSIBILITIES
The cost is $45 per person to go towards hotel and bus costs.  Please make check payable to CMS Band and bring on Thursday, January 17.  Students will need to bring additional cash to cover 2 dinners and 1 lunch (breakfasts are free at the hotel).

Please let me know if covering this cost will be a problem and we will work something out!  I do not want a student to not be able to participate due to cost.  They’ve worked very hard to get here!

*OPTIONAL*  If students would like an optional Honor Band Shirt, they are $15.  You can write a check to CMS Band and we will pre-order through the district.  I will need this as a separate check in my hand by Monday, January 13.  Otherwise, you can get one there (but they usually sell out).

SCHEDULE
Thursday, Jan 17 (Early dismissal day at school)
  • Students report to school with all their items for the trip (bags go in the drum room for the day)
  • 11:30 am – Dismissal – Meet in band room
  • Bus will either arrive close to 12:00 -OR– at 2:30 TBA (this will depend on if we have to wait for the buses to run their routes before we get our bus, either way the students can stay in the band room)
  • Bus will stop for dinner on the way
  • 6:30-9:00 PM Rehearsal – Southeastern University (see map below)
    • Concert Band – Rehearsal Location Change
      • Rehearsals will be held in the Vonnie Borden Theatre which is in D. Vickers Hall. This is on the side of the student union opposite the music building.
    • Symphonic Band - Choir Room in Pottle Music Building
      • See the schedule below & the information sheet distributed to directors/students.
Friday, Jan 18 (No school)
  • 9:00 AM-12:00 PM Rehearsal
  • 12:00-2:00 PM Bring Students to Lunch (chaperones can decide on a local fast food chain for meals)
  • 2:00-4:00 PM Rehearsal
  • 4:00-6:00 PM Bring Students to Dinner
  • 6:00-8:00 PM Rehearsal
Saturday, Jan 19
  • ***Change***:  Students should be picked up from the hotel by a parent or designated carpool driver NLT 8:00 am and brought to the Saturday morning rehearsal and concert.  It is too costly to keep the bus for the additional night.  Unfortunately, parents will not be able to stay for the rehearsal.
  • 8:30-9:30 AM Rehearsal with Concert following
  • Concert at the Columbia Theatre (220 E. Thomas St., Hammond, LA 70401).   Concert begins at 10:00 am and should last no more than 1 hour.

PACKING LIST
  • Instrument & HB Music Folder given to you
  • Pencils
  • Band uniform for performance
  • 2 changes of clothing for rehearsals (school appropriate casual dress is OK, but no specific uniform is required)
  • Sleep clothes
  • Toiletries
  • Cell phone (if you have one) & charger (although these should not be on during rehearsals!)
  • Money for at least 3 meals
  • *Optional* $15 t-shirt money if you did not pre-order (see the instructions below)
  • Music stand - It is preferable for you to bring a folding music stand if you have one.  If you do not have one, you may borrow one of the large stands from the band room.  However, I do highly recommend purchasing a folding one from Alison’s –usually around $15- as it is a good investment for proper at home practice and will be easier to tote around.

WHAT TO PREPARE
Congratulations!  You did the hard work to make the band - now you must arrive prepared!  Please look up the recordings of the songs included in the folder given to you at www.jwpepper.com.  Make sure you've marked your music for accidentals and have practiced difficult looking passages.

CHAPERONE RESPONSIBILITIES
Supervise the students in the hotel and on meal breaks.  Students are not allowed in different rooms.  If they would like to socialize, it must be in the lobby.  Do bed checks and tape doors at lights out.  Hotel time is minimal time as they will spend the majority of their time in rehearsals.  You are not required to supervise them during rehearsal time.  Honor Band students are the best of the best and are a breeze to chaperone!  Unfortunately my duties as the Honor Band Symphonic Band Chairperson make it difficult for me to chaperone them during breaks and at the hotel which is why I’ve always relied on parent support here, thanks a ton!

SOMEONE TO PULL THE TRAILER
If by any chance someone is able to pull the trailer to HB, let me know.  We are supplying quite a bit of percussion for one of the bands and I need someone to do this!

Please let me know if you have any questions.  This is always such a fun weekend for all involved!

T-SHIRTS (Optional)
*If students would like an optional shirt, they are $15.  You can write a check to CMS Boosters and we will pre-order through the district.  I will need this in my hand by Tuesday, January 14.  Otherwise, you can get one there (but they usually sell out).
