Thursday, May 17, 2018  |  6:30 p.m.
East Ascension High *NEW* Cafetorium - Family and friends are invited!

6th Grade Reports by 5:50 p.m.
7th & 8th Grade Report by 6:10 p.m.

Uniform: Black dress pants (NO faded black jeans, leggings, or joggers), black belt, TALL black socks, all black shoes, maroon band polo.

Please leave instrument cases in the car or with parents.  Only students with large school owned instruments will be allowed in the band room before the concert.

We ask that all percussion, tubas, and baritones arrive around 5:30 p.m. to help unload the trailer.

Graded performance based on:
  • On time attendance
  • Appropriate dress
  • Musical preparation
  • Participation, staying for the ENTIRE concert!  Bands will perform in this order: 6th, 7th, 8th. Students will be required to sit with their band when not performing.  The whole concert should take approximately 1 hour and 30 minutes.
  • Appropriate concert etiquette/behavior
  • After the concert, all students are expected to help with clean-up!

Concert Etiquette
Our students have been working very hard in their preparation of this concert.  So that audience and performers alike can have an enjoyable musical experience, we have also been practicing appropriate concert etiquette in class and hope that our audience will support us in our efforts!
  • Treat the concert as a formal event.  Clapping is the appropriate way to show appreciation rather than whistling or cheering.  If you really love something, a standing ovation is the best way to show your enthusiasm!
  • Everyone should remain seated and quiet during the performances.  If you must exit the gym, please do so at the end of a song.  Students are asked to go to the bathroom before reporting and will not be dismissed until the conclusion of the concert.
  • While we know you are all excited to share your child’s performance with family and friends, remember that copyright laws and school media release laws prohibit the sharing of any visual or audio recordings publicly on sites such a YouTube, Facebook, Instagram, etc.

Student Donut Party to celebrate a Great Year!!!
Friday, May 18 during advisory

8th Grade Slideshow

Congratulations to the 6th Grade Beginning Band on their performance on May 4 at the Sr. Hilary Invitational Band Festival held in New Orleans.  The band earned the highest ratings of Superiors from the band judges.  After the performance, they enjoyed lunch at City Park.  Thanks to all the parents who came out to chaperone and support the band in their performance.  It was a great day for all!

  • We are currently trying to clear up all outstanding band fees, WFC fees, etc. before the end of the school year.  You should have received an email from yfroisy@gmail.com if you still owe something
  • 340 boxes of WFC have been sold, 95 remain (see the previous email for details).  Supermarket sale has been set-up at Ralph’s on Germany & Hwy 44 on May 26 between 9am-2pm.  Participants that come out will get free bowling passes.

    • Mounting a large donated screen, installing a projector, ordering and installing a sound system

Scheduling Band for 2018-2019
  • Future 6th Graders – I will be visiting their elementary schools in the next two weeks to give the music aptitude test.
    • *Change* - We will now be doing Instrument Fittings for incoming 6th graders BEFORE school starts so we can begin playing immediately.  Students must attend one of these fittings in order to be scheduled in band – May 21 or Jun 19.
  • Future 7th Graders – will have many more performance opportunities including: 1-2 football game performances, many pep rallies, marching in the Christmas Parade, Pre-Festival Performance, and District Festival Performances.  They should expect to be using all the fundamentals skills they learned in beginning band to be able to play much MORE MUSIC!
  • Future 8th Graders – will be adding a Fall Concert (Halloween themed), playing at 3-4 home football games, a handful more in-school performances at Pep-Rallies, performance with the EAHS Spartan Band at an EA Football game, and many more music making opportunities.  Our 8th grade band is our PREMIERE band where students step into their roles as the leaders of the band program.  They play advanced music at a refined level.  This is the year we all work towards.  If they’ve been in band for 6th & 7th, they owe it to themselves to go all the way!
